The
Digital Home Vision
Too
many people discussing 'Home of the Future' concepts are always
referring to something just around the corner. At Intamac, we specialise
in making future concepts real today. This gives us a unique perspective
as to what the future will deliver to the homeowner, and what is
relevant.
Intamac's aim is always to simplify the use of relevant and affordable
technology. Our future vision is one of simplicity, where your house
does things for you below the level of your consciousness, such
as turn the lights on when you are away, control appliances and
devices without you having to think about it, look after the security
of your household, protect against fire, flood, and intrusion, and
monitor the quality of your air. If you are old or infirm, it will
let your carers know when you need assistance, and reassure them
when you do not. If you have children, it will tell you where they
are, and keep them safe in the home. If you leave the gas on, or
a water leak develops, the service will be shut off and you will
be informed. If the power goes off or the telephone line fails,
you will know. The technology to deliver this is available today
and we embody this is our products and services.
The technological building blocks are now in place to take this
to new levels. Following ratification of new standards for Internet
connectivity, the availability of low-power wireless devices, and
continued growth of consumer broadband, the technology to deliver
the vision is now here. We have been monitoring and reporting for
years, but shortly we will be able to deliver real-time control
to the home-owner, and intelligence to the home. By aggregating
information from many devices into a simple portal to your home,
we can bring you full monitoring information regarding the status
of your home, and give you the power to change and control it. You
can even generate simple rules that will do things automatically,
and then tell you they have been done.
The market is now ready and consumers want solutions. Most of the
technology we come across daily is genuinely useful, but it exists
at a level above the unconscious, which makes it an effort to use
and is often expensive to implement. They want us to deliver them
simple solutions that deliver real and relevant benefits. Industries
also need new ways of servicing their customer bases and generating
new revenue streams. Even broadband service providers are beginning
to recognise they need to offer more than just fast access to content.
We believe we have the tools to deliver the digital home. A home
that gives the benefits outlined above at a price that makes it
applicable to the mass market.
