Linksys Wireless G Camera

How do I register my camera on my network?

Please refer to the Linksys Wireless G camera Quick Install Guide supplied with your camera.

What sort of images can I see from my camera when motion is detected?

email: .asf file attachments

MMS: slideshow of 5 images at 1 second intervals

Online account: 5 second movie clip

Do I need to have my computer on all the time?

No. Once configured the camera and monitoring service can run without the need for a PC. Remember to leave your broadband router switched on though.

What software do I need on my PC to see recorded video?

We recommend Windows Media Player version 9 or above, and you will also need the Linksys Active X control software, which is free.

Will pop-up blocking software affect my service?

Possibly. The Home Manager launches the live view of a camera in a separate browser window. If you have trouble viewing images, try switching off your pop-up blocking software or alter your settings to allow the Home Manager live view window to launch.

Can I view MMS messages on my phone?

There are some restrictions on which mobile phone networks will allow you to download picture messages from Intamac. Refer to the picture messaging section for details.

I have enabled the Intamac camera monitoring service, and now I cannot use email to send notifications to my contacts from the camera. Why is this?
EMail messages are sent using SMTP to a mail server, where they are forwarded to an email address. This process can take some time, and is subject to delay. When the camera is Intamac-enabled the default of FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is applied, which is much faster and more reliable as captured video is delivered directly to the Intamac platform within a few seconds, initiating an almost instant alert sequence. You can still choose to forward alerts by setting the email options in your contact from the Intamac platform, but you also have the reassurance of a phone call to a landline and SMS text (and MMS where applicable) to multiple contacts.

How can I restore my camera to its original settings, including email alerts?
If you wish to restore the camera to its original settings, simply de-register the camera from the Intamac service. This option is found on the Intamac Camera Monitoring tab on the camera web interface. Note: If you do this, the camera will no longer transmit files via ftp to the Intamac platform, and your contacts will no longer receive alerts via the platform.

What other default settings are applied when I register my camera with Intamac?
Apart from SMTP to FTP, the captured video length is set to five seconds (default is two). Also the interval between activations is set to 30 minutes (default is two). It is recommended that these settings are not changed as they have been determined to be optimal in most situations.

Why is the default interval between activations set to 30 minutes?
The primary purpose of motion detection is to alert you to activity in the home. Once the camera has done this you should have the information you need to take action. Continuous motion detection would have an adverse impact on our ability to process the information and provide you with timely alerts, whilst not adding any additional value. If you need more information, the best way is to remotely log into the camera to obtain a live view. NOTE: The platform is also set to respond to alerts in 30-minute intervals, so setting the camera to less than that will not generate any additional alerts. However, we are committed to a process of continuous review and upgrade of platform features and so have left this function active on the camera to give flexibility for the future. You are advised to retain the 30-minute setting on the camera.

I have not changed the default settings, but I keep getting activations where nothing is seen in the video. Why is this?
In the camera options page, all detection zones have been enabled by default. This gives the best possibility of capturing a full activation from the moment a body starts to cross the camera activation field. If you choose to alter this (by deselecting areas), it will reduce the peripheral detection range. This would be appropriate where the camera is face-on to oncoming motion e.g. at the end of a corridor. If you do not wish to do this, try selecting a lower sensitivity option until the camera responds as you wish. NOTE: If you set the camera to high sensitivity with all zones, sudden changes in light level will activate the camera. This is not appropriate in a naturally-lit environment, for example, as clouds passing the sun will activate an alert.

I have connected my camera to the Intamac Service but I am not receiving any alerts. What is wrong?
Open the ‘Intamac’ tab on the camera interface after logging into the camera. Check that the device ID is populated with numbers and not zeros (i.e. the camera is registered) and the ‘enabled/disabled’ field is set to ‘enabled’. If this is correct, go to the ‘options’ tab. Check that you have not inadvertently disabled all activation zones, and ensure sensitivity is set to medium or higher. If all is well, check the status log. You should see log entries of the camera detecting motion and successfully sending files. If this is the case, but you are not receiving alerts, check your account and contact settings in your customer account online. If there are no log entries, leave the camera switched on and undisturbed for 30 minutes, and then try activating it with some motion in front of the lens. If this is not successful, contact Linksys technical support giving them details of your tests.

How can I switch my camera off so that it does not generate alerts?
You can prevent your camera from sending alerts by going to the Camera Monitoring tab on the camera and setting the field to ‘disabled’. Re-enable motion detection by resetting it to ‘enabled’. You can also disable motion reporting from your Home or Business Manager account. The camera will still send images, but they will not be transmitted to your contacts. The advantage with this approach is that you can use text messaging to turn the monitoring and alerting service on and off. Note that BOTH the camera and your account have to be enabled for reporting for the service to work, but only one need be switched off to deactivate it.
